Project summary

The SUM Project aims to promote the implementation of local/regional policies regarding sustainable urban mobility, trying to minimize three serious problems: CO2 emissions causing the greenhouse effect, the energy dependence which puts us in a situation of high economic and political instability, and pollution of the cities which leads to serious consequences for health and quality of life.

The overall objective of The SUM Project is to contribute to the promotion and consolidation of sustainable urban transport modes through interregional cooperation.

The operational objectives are: _Promoting knowledge sharing and joint discussion on regional practices to benefit sustainable mobility, creating greater awareness in the field of sustainable urban mobility. _Enhancing the regions with less experience in new eco-friendly modes of transport in order that they can work together with more advanced regions in this field, drawing on their knowledge and expertise.

_Identifying the most effective practices to ensure that citizens adopt behaviours and habits more sustainable in urban mobility, analyzing information and awareness campaigns, the sustainable transport alternatives available and advantages for the population.

_Specifying in an Implementation Plan the necessary actions to implement the gained experiences and knowledge in each region through the participation in the program.

Project achievements

INTERREG IV C project SUM PROJECT (sustainable urban mobility) was comprised of 15 partners from 9 different countries (Spain, Portugal,Italy, Latvia, Poland, Bulgaria, France, Sweden and the UK), where: 9 municipalities, 4 energy agencies, 1 association of local authorities and since august 2013 one Regional Development Agency. In 2012 the partner of Calabria withdrew and in 2013 partner of Murcia have to be changed.

The project, that will be implemented from the 01/01/2012 to 30/06/2014, has as a main objective to contribute through interregional cooperation, to promote and consolidate the sustainable urban transport mode as universal and competitive, highlighting the potential of using electric vehicles and encouraging a dialogue to develop a joint European strategy aimed at strengthening the Sustainable Mobility.SUM Project has two main objectives: promoting among the citizenship more sustainable urban mobility guidelines and enable a gradual replacement in European cities of the

traditional vehicle for an electric one and other clear means of transport mode, through a coordinated strategy for sustainable mobility. SUM Project is focused on identifying the most effective practices in the field of sustainable mobility to ensure that citizens change their behaviour when travelling to transport modes more environmentally friendly. This will be achieved through a specific action plan for each European region and through the dissemination and promotional campaigns for the general public.

The project is composed of 3 main work packages: Management and Coordination, Communication and dissemination and exchange of experiences dedicated to the identification and analysis of good practices. In the first semester of the project, partners have been dedicated to make future planning of the project, laying the groundwork on how to carry out the activities. In April 2012 1st Meeting of the SC in Faro was carried out, to establish a schedule of the activities programmed during

the project

The 1st Regional Study on sustainable mobility was about “electric mobility”: 2nd semester each partner collected information on the GP related to electrical vehicle. In October, 2012, LP organized in Vigo, Spain, the 1st Thematic Workshop related to electrical mobility. As result of these workshops 5 GP were identified, and the most relevant ones were delivered to the IVC good practice database. In December 2012, the Interregional Visit in Riga (LV) had been celebrated: partners had been able to acquire knowledge and good ideas on the activities being carried out in Latvia related to sustainable electric mobility. The Second Workshop related to Biofuels had been organized by the Municipality of Amiens on April 2013, presenting the regional studies on Biofuels. As a result of the workshop 5 good practices were identified. At the same time the 3SC was held in Amines. The 2nd Regional Visit was carried out in Malmo (SE), Jun2013 based on Biofuels.

In Nov2013, Sofia, was

celebrated the 4SC and the 3rd workshop on "Other thematics" and at Vrasta the 3rd interregional visit. Finally, 15 best practices was selected from a total of 85 GP identified. In the 5 semesters, there have been several actions for the dissemination of the project activities: 5 Newsletters and other extra newsletter for the Green Dream Photo Contest and 3 Brochures that have been disseminated among key stakeholders related to urban mobility and energy & a Web page of the project www.sumproject.eu. Partners created 3 social networks: Facebook, Twiter &Linkedin, where they upload news an events of the project. At the last period, all partners worked in the selection of the GP that fits better to their regions, thus 14 IP was developed, one in each region and 4 of them are actually transferred. Information about 15 GP were collected in a Guide of Good Practices & a CD with the 84 GP identified during the project. Also LP,P6 and P16 have improved regional/local policies or instruments.
