Commissioner Hahn announced the winners of the RegioStars 2014 Awards on 31 March 2014. Mini Europe, an INTERREG IVC project on innovation and entrepreneurship and a finalist in the 'Inclusive growth: Creating jobs for the young generation' category, was beaten by the Fifteen Cornwall Apprenticeship Programme, inspired by the UK celebrity TV chef Jamie Oliver and helping disadvantaged young people to turn their lives around by training as chefs.

INTERREG EUROPE consulted with over 30 countries

The interregional cooperation programme 2014-2020, INTERREG EUROPE, has just closed the public consultation on the draft documents of the programme. Over 300 replies received from over 30 European countries during the 10 weeks of the consultation provide ample feedback to the programme on the draft. Now the cooperation programme can be finalised by the Partner States and prepared for submission to the European Commission.

They will also coordinate their preparation work on the INTERREG IVC capitalisation dissemination event about to take place on 22 May 2014 in Brussels.

INTERREG IVC present at the 6th European Summit of Regions and Cities

INTERREG IVC took part in the European Summit of Regions and Cities on 7-8 March, 2014, in Athens, Greece. The summit assessed the efforts made at all political levels to deliver a job-rich recovery in Europe. The INTERREG IVC programme joined the good practice exhibition there and displayed how interregional cooperation had improved policy in many regions and cities across Europe.

WINNET 8 discussed at the European Parliament

WINNET 8, an INTERREG IVC capitalisation project on gender equality and economic growth, presented their achievements at the meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Regional Development on 11 February, 2014. They discussed the role of gender equality in regional policies for growth and the focus of the ongoing cooperation among the project partners for the benefit of other regions in Europe.

New EU public procurement thresholds in force

The European Commission revised the EU public procurement thresholds for public works, public supply and public service. From 1 January 2014, slightly increased amounts apply to procedures for the award of contracts under EU public procurement directives.

European tourism destinations compete for CHARTS Award

INTERREG IVC project CHARTS on culture, heritage and sustainable tourism development invites all tourism destinations from the European Union, Norway and Switzerland, to take part in a competition for the CHARTS Award. The Award aims at enhancing the visibility of European cultural tourism destinations. The winners will be recognised as examples of excellence inspiring others.

INTERACT publication on creative industries available online

INTERACT published an overview of the cultural and creative industries (CCI) in Europe. The publication 'European Territorial Cooperation: Inspiring Creativity. Promoting Culture and Creative Industries across Europe' is now available for download. INTERREG IVC contributed to this publication with some insights into its thematic programme capitalisation on creative industries.

Brain Flow final conference

INTERREG IVC project Brain Flow organises a final conference on 'Brain retention and how to achieve it? - Recipes for regional action' in Düsseldorf on 28 January 2014. The participants will have a chance to discuss there three main areas that influence the retention of highly skilled workers: policies for regional attractiveness, higher-education systems and the business sector.

EU public consultation on INTERREG EUROPE

The interregional cooperation programme 2014-2020, called ‘INTERREG EUROPE’, is currently being shaped. A public consultation on the draft programme is running from 10 January until 21 March 2014. All interested individuals and organisations are encouraged to complete the online questionnaire to provide their feedback on the draft cooperation programme. OPEN DAYS 2014 to be kicked-off on 10 January, 11:00 CET

The Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Commission Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) invite interested colleagues from regional offices, associations and EU institutions to the OPEN DAYS 2014 kick-off meeting on 10 January on CoR premises. Secretary-General Gerhard Stahl (CoR) and Director-General Walter Deffaa (DG REGIO) will present together lessons learned from the 2013 edition and the themes for 2014. Representatives of the 30 partner states of the future INTERREG EUROPE programme met in Vilnius, Lithuania, last week to discuss the final draft of the Operational Programme (OP). The draft will be open for comments during a public consultation process to be launched on 10 January 2014.
