Good Practice Information

To support SME creation and growth, Malta Enterprise manages the Kordin Business Incubation Centre (KBIC), a mixed technology incubator.
KBIC provides a cost-effective business environment, a professional image and managerial expertise for SMEs. SMEs benefits from assistance, workshops and seminars to stimulate innovation. Businesses can concentrate on technical aspects of their venture and get
administrative, financial and marketing assistance.
Target industrial groups are mechanical/electrical engineering design; machinery development; renewable energy; environment; biotech (particularly ICT); other innovative projects.
KBIC provides assistance on measures to accelerate development e.g. technology market research, collaborative technology partnerships; R&D initiatives; advanced design.

Evidence of success

Kordin Business Incubation Centre has been established since 2001 in Paola and to date it accomodated around 80 tenants from multiple sectors, including Maltese and foreign owned companies, of which 15 are currently undergoing the KBIC programme. Current tenants (2015) employ approx 70 employees in total.
Many companies have become successful and some have patented their innovation products.
