Topic of the practice
Energy Management in public and commerical buildings
Good Practice Information
The Good Practice involved the installation of a Smart Metering system, which allows management to monitor energy consumption on a real time basis to assist with the elimination of waste and to improve the energy efficieny of the building and the installed mechanical and electrical equipment, combining the principles of energy usage and statistics.
The system installed is an internet/intranet based software application which is easily transferable to other organisations.
Evidence of success
The system monitors energy consumption on a real time which identifes wastage and allows management the opportunity to identify potential energy efficiency projects by analysing consumption trends and verification of actual savings. The Council is using this system to set a baseline energy consumption and to confirm it has acheived its annual 3% reduction target.
