Good Practice Information

The City of Munich delivers the "Munich Business Plan Competition" (MBPW) - an initiative founded by industry and universities, which aims at encouraging young people to set up business and creates networks for young entrepreneurs in the Munich area. MBPW stimulates and supports the creation of business on a wide basis with a focus on innovative and fast growing start-ups of the technology sector. It also offers support to the MBPW alumni, the former participants and their growing companies. Together with experts young people are coached to bring their idea into the market. After selecting the most promising business ideas the young people are invited to write jointly a comprehensive business plan. There are various steps of evaluation of the officially submitted concept to the board of experts. The most promising plan will be awarded and will get support of the implementation process.
The main focus is to encourage students with innovative ideas to bring their ideas into the market by an own firm.

Evidence of success

The MBPW is an effective tool to encourage students to become an entrepreneur. It offers the Munich partners (companies, service providers, MEB, MTZ, financial institutions, etc.) the unique possibility to make their services visible and to come in contact in contact with students. In 12 years over 580 enterprises have emerged from the Munich Business Plan Compe-tition. About 4,250 new jobs have been created and over Euro 554 Mio. seed and growth capital have been invested in these companies. The Munich Business Plan Competition is one of the leading business plan competitions in the world and linked to an international network of entrepreneurial organisations.
