Good Practice Information

I3P and 2I3T are enterprise incubators that provide business training courses and offers students and researchers a concrete opportunity to go into business. It represents an important outlet for the direct transfer of technological innovation from the university lab to the production chain. I3P and 2I3T are university-based enterprise incubators. The close relationship between Turin Polytechnic University and I3P and between Turin University and 2I3T is of great value to both parties.
Enterprises in the incubators can take advantage of the proximity of the technical university to access its knowledge base and research labs. Programmes were launched in 1999 (I3P) and 2004 (2I3T). The expected number of recipients is 100-150 business ideas evaluated per year.
This programme has to be considered as a long-term activation policy. The main objectives are to:
> Promote and support enterprise creation, building on the innovative potential developed in universities and research institutions.
> Encourage students, young graduates and staff at the Polytechnic university and other research centres in Piedmont.

Evidence of success

Today I3P is Italy’s leading university-based enterprise incubator system. 2I3T (more recent) is gradually well integrating into the local economy.
More than 1300 business ideas were evaluated, of which more than 400 were coached to the business plans. 140 innovative start-ups were supported in the pre-incubation period.
