Good Practice Information

In Slovenia all schools are obligated to provide at least one “security exercise” in each year to inform the pupils/students about emergency exits. The Municipality of Ajdovščina made one step further with decision to organize disaster prevention trainings. The event “Igrajmo se za varnost” (Let's play for security) is organized every May or June since 2002 . The event is organized by the department for civil protection and council for prevention and education in traffic. The main goal of event is to promote the emergency number 112 and present the local rescue and relief forces (firemen, police, first aid …). Through different workshops and exercises the children from kinder garden and primary school can learn how to prevent and react to different disasters. The event is also open for adult citizens.

Evidence of success

The event is a useful tool to raise awareness among children and adult citizen about the importance of risk prevention.
