Establishing a new urban park at Litér
Topic of the practice
Recultivation of an industrial area
Good Practice Information
An urban park in the Southern part of the Litér village has been developed and enhanced (with new functions: resting park, sledging-area, memorial site, playground & community space-stage) at the location of a former industrial and mining area. This new park of 10078m² contributed to make green spaces more diverse at Litér.
The park included landscape managed infrastructure and accessible pathways; a covered pavilion was also built. Concerning the planted vegetation, the most important aspect was to choose species fitting into the landscape and suiting to the already existing natural vegetation in their character. The budget of the project was143500€ of which 90% was funded by the Norwegian Fund.
Evidence of success
The 1ha former industrial & mining area - unused aesthetically and environmentally degraded - became recultivated. It has created value for residents and tourists. 48 street/park furniture and waste bins were located. 100% of the area is covered by vegetation. 1350 plants were planted. Majority of the park is covered by grass (60%), while the rest is covered by shrubs (20%) and trees (20%).
