Good Practice Information

Downsizing of the italian automotive industry led to many empty production buildings in the City / Region of Turin. Possibilities were seeked for to revitalise the area and bring back employment and lay the ground for a prosperous automotive industry again. In 2005 an agreement stated the purchasing of about 300.000 square metres of FIAT’s unused areas by the local public authorities.
Piemonte Region, Province of Turin, City of Turin and FIAT formed a company called Torino Nuova Economia to newly develop the area. The central for the project is the construction of the Design Centre, moving some teaching and research activities of the Politecnico di Torino to the new “Design Centre”, the realization of a technological platform for smart mobility and the settlement of new firms
