Good Practice Information

In 2005–2007 the DESQOOP Project was developed. It was implemented by the regions of Galicia and Northern Portugal within the ETC I-IIIA. The project initiated a series of actions aimed at boosting the regional economy, promoting the cooperativism as means of transformation and the improvement of the traditional economy. The project resulted in launching the Verín Cooperative Develop Centre.
Upon the completion of the project, a socioeconomic study was undertaken in order to identify needs and opportunities in Verín and Viana areas. Its conclusions were exploited throughout activities and services of the Centre, which currently constitutes the reference and support point for training and advisiory cooperative services. Its local impact contributes to the socioeconomical dynamics.

Evidence of success

Potential entrepreneurs would create new cooperatives, become self -employed and generate other self-employment in the area. Methods for promoting agents’ participation in market studies and cooperative activities were implanted. For example: 250 agents participated as interviewees in a socioeconomic study and workshops with experts from public and private entities in the areas.
