Support to SMEs in the East of England.

Good Practice Information

"Low Carbon Freight Dividend" supports SMEs in the East of England to make the modal switch for container freight from road to rail or coastal shipping by offering a dividend of up to £6,750 for moving some 90 containers from road to more environmentally friendly modes, encouraging them for the intitial switch. Long term change is supported by practice oriented workshops in freight optimisation
and low carbon marketing to help SMEs view the challenges ahead and understand why low carbon should be considered. This project is supported with about 4.5m € from the European Regional Development Fund with the overall project being worth about 10.5m €. The project links with Port Integration by supporting SMEs to look at alternatives to road, having less impact on the port's hinterland.

Evidence of success

This project aims to remove about 13m kgs of Co2 from the supply chain over the course of the project and support 375 SMEs in doing so.
