The ‘Municipal Plan of Defence against Forest Fires’ is an instrument used in Mirandela (Portugal) to provide help in taking political choices and setting goals, Mirandela (Portugal): This plan is based on methodological recommendations of the National Forest Authority (AFN), and its aim is to operationalise legislation to defend against forest fires and to create a strategy adapted to local circumstances over five-year period. It encompasses a background analysis and an action plan, and emphasises the importance of stakeholder involvement and public awareness raising. The plan successfully supports the municipality in setting priorities in policy planning for mitigating damage from forest fires.
