State Aid Scheme for companies in the field of Research&Development and Innovation

Good Practice Information

is to strengthen R&D and innovation in Lower Austrian companies, to improve the offer of products, services and processes and thus their international competitivenessFinancial support of companies’ projects is provided in the fields of R&D and innovation, mostly for precompetitive, experimental development. The amount of the eligible project costs is dependant on the type of the funded project.
The State Aid is given as a grant, loan or as combination of both. Over the years 2005 till 2009 (relevant time frame for OSA IS project) some 480 companies were funded, thereof 27% micro companies, 26% small, 15% medium-sized and 32% large companies.The State Aid Scheme with open calls is running under the Community Framework for State Aid for R&D&I C323.

Evidence of success

considerable effects in terms of new jobs (1 job per some 20,000 € Gross Grant Equivalent GGE), new R&D jobs (1 R&D job per some 70,000 € GGE), additional R&D budget (some 1,000 € per 1,000 GGE), additional turnover two years after (some 8,000 € per 1,000 € GGE) and high number of approved patent applications (1 per some 20,000 € GGE). Results calculated on the data base with 85 data sets
