Good Practice Information
Spa Snovik represents a good practice in terms of their solutions related to Renewable Energy Resources technologies on one side and excellent cooperation with local communities on the other. The result of their efforts is reflected in acquisition of The European Eco-label for tourist accommodation service EU-Daisy. They established a quality system that is in accordance with requirements of international standards of the group ISO 9000:2000 and ISO 14000:2005. As a reference standard, they chose SIST ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management System) and SIST EN ISO 14001:2005 (Environment Management System). The second important aspect in Spa Snovik are the education activities towards adults and young guests in terms of ecological behaviour and the excellent cooperation of the resort with local communities, other tourism actors and sites.
The use of renewable energy resources such as the use of solar energy (vacuum solar collectors), waste water heat (heat pump water-water), excessive heat in the air (heat pump air-water) and wood biomass (boiler room) contributes to emission reduction, improves the living environment and the tourist attractiveness of the place.
Furthermore the contribution of the Spa to the reduction of environmental pollution includes an own mechanical biological treatment facility, the sorting of waste (every apartment has a three-compartment recycling bin) and the minimal use of non-reusable products and non-refillable containers. Ecological awareness is apparent from energy saving measures (use of energy-saving lamps, automatic switching off of air conditioning and heating systems, high quality window insulation, energy-saving refrigerators and other appliances and bioclimatic architecture), the smallest possible consumption of water and the promotion of public transport use.
Evidence of success
With the use of renewable energy sources in Spa Snovik they reduce emission of CO2 for 155 tons a year. Spa Snovik is very active on the promotion of eco friendly tourism, use of natural resources and healthy lifestyle. They organise regular "technical days" for primary schools, where they present their experiences and approaches on the field of use of renewable energy sources and energy saving. Arround their facilities they have planted herbs with description of their heeling powers and use. Accommodation units are also named after herbal plants. The restaurant uses ecologically produced food and ingrediants from local suppliers, they also organise "health club" - workshops on healthy food, thematic walks with the local population, presenting local crafts and customs and many other activities.
