Topic of the practice

Improve the energy efficiency and reduction of his consumption in the ports

Good Practice Information

The good practice consists on the implementation of an agreement between Portos de Galicia and the Energy Institute of Galicia (INEGA) on saving and energy efficiency. The agreement has for object to carry out performances in the following matters:

o Studies and performances for introduction of measures of saving and energy efficiency in the facilities and port activities.

a) The first specif measure was to accomplish an energy audit in the public lighting of three different ports: Celeiro, Ribeira and O Grove, analyzing the characteristics of the existing facilities and to set up the possible measures to adopt for a best energy efficiency and reduction of the consumption. (6.000 €)

b) There is another pilot project consist on the substitution of the current lights of a public lighting of a port for LED lights, in order to evaluate, with real data, the luminous efficiency, equivalence of powers, reduction of consumptions, cost of introduction and maintenance, etc., of this type of lights.

Evidence of success

We have estimated a possible 30% saving in exterior public lighting in our ports and port facilities.
