Good Practice Information

Better Bankside is the third BID in the UK, the second in London and the first south of the river. A BID is an independent, business-owned and led company, which seeks to improve a given location for commercial activity. Better Bankside's members are the 460 companies in the BID area who pay its annual 'levy'. Many of these are heavily involved in the governance of the company. Some of its
activities involve: Bankside Urban Forest, Bike Loan&parking, Business Club&Directory, Seminars, Cleaning, community engagement, crime reduction, travel planning, interactive maps, Smart Green Businesses, Recycling, Green, warden service, volunteering, well being at work etc.

Evidence of success

The BID boundary, as of 2010 it includes a total of 460 eligible businesses. Better Bankside will invest circa £5 million received from local businesses between 2010 and 2015 on a comprehensive programme of improvements. Currently Better Bankside draws in a further 30% of funding from other sources. The aim is to raise this substantially by the end of the next term.
