Good Practice Information
AnachB.at is a good example of a web-based intermodal traveller information. It allows the public to access real time intermodal traffic information and an intermodal routing service using the resources of the operator, ITS Vienna Region. AnachB.at enables to choose the most convenient mode of transport in a “one stop shop”. It is linked with a dynamic traffic data pool and delivers more current and more detailed data than conventional traffic services. Partners of the operator ITS Vienna Region are public transport operators, road managers, the public transport association and public authorities on regional and local level. Services are addressed at citizens of the metropolitan region and shall contribute to the use of more sustainable modes of transport.
The annual budget for operation and maintenance is approx. 1 MEUR per year. The project is financed by the provinces of Vienna (44%), Lower Austria (44%) and Burgenland (12%). Transfer may be possible, if cooperation of background institutions and data are available. Currently two initiatives attempt to extend the AnachB.at by cross-border information to Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Evidence of success
AnachB.at is linked with a dynamic traffic data pool and delivers more current and more detailed data than conventional traffic services. The success might be measured by counting the number of routing requests. Effects in terms of more sustainable choices in transport are difficult to assess, since the choice of the mode of transport will finally be done by the user.
