Topic of the practice

Lombardy region has adopted Green public procurment in order to integrate evnrionmental requirements in the pruchasing process of goods and services, extending this approach to regional public bodies and companys sytem

Good Practice Information

The main objective is to reduce the use of natural resources, the waste production, the ghg emission and to promote the energy savings and efficiency, in area of high spending and impact on well being (food catering service, health). The approach has been promoted in the framework of regional legislation concerning the recovery of waste and the prevention and reduction fo anthropogenic emissions a Regional Procurement Agency has been instituted and centralize the public tendring procedures Specifics programs have been implemented in order to promote competition and technological innovation to higher environmental standards, to increase the value of goods and services at low environmental impact. The actions were supported by a found of 2M€ (Lombardy Region and Chambers of Commerce)

Evidence of success

Clear and verifiable criteria of product and services compatible btw region and members states are created, base on technical and scientific analysis relating to the LCA of G&S. Practice that contributes to the rationalization of public spending and to the improvement of the image of the public administration (dissemination of sustainable patterns of consumption, and stimulation of ecoinovation)
