Grant for sustainable innovation (AIR)
Topic of the practice
increase the levels of sustainability of regional development
Good Practice Information
The Regional Council (RC) adopted this measure in order to change the innovation paradigm within regional enterprises, allowing to increase the levels of sustainability of regional development. This is done mainly by giving a special emphasis to strengthening the environmental dimension of innovation projects. Special attention is also given to the social and ethical components of selected projects. This measure is also intended to promote technological development within SMEs and incite research output transfer towards regional industries. The assistance provided by the RC is destined to small and very small enterprises in the form of a grant.
The Regional Council (RC) supports research and innovation by facilitating the training and integration of researchers into the economic world, helping to equip laboratories and supporting promising innovation projects. The Department for research, innovation and higher education is responsible for implementing the region's research, innovation and higher education strategy and policies (including AIR).
The RC carries out the selection process in collaboration with the Ile-de-France Innovation Centre. All projects must fill a number of strict environmental, social and ethical criteria. SME with less than 50 employees may receive up to €100,000 while those with less than 250 employees may receive €90,000. Artego Energy, an SME based out of Paris, recently received funds to help it develop a low-cost and environmentally friendly solar photovoltaic panel.
Evidence of success
Since the implementation of the AIR, two and a half years ago, 109 projects have been supported, for a total amount of around 7.5 M€ of grants, half of which have reached their completion.
