Topic of the practice

Humboldt-Innovation is the dedicated knowledge and technology transfer office of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and acts as comprehensive interface between the university and industry - between science and business.

Good Practice Information

HUMBOLDT-INNOVATION is a 100% subsidiary enterprise of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin organized as a GmbH. It acts as an interface / service provider to support academic spin-offs and startups and the facilitation of research cooperation between the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the private sector.
Main success factors are the support by the university management (President) and administration, national and international benchmarking and collaboration with existing academic institutions (e.g. MIT Innovation, Imperial Innovation, Max-Plack Innovation), cooperation with regional stakeholder and politics and the development of two pre-incubators, one in the Science and Technology Park Berlin-Adlershof.
Flexibility and the ability to quickly react and make decisions are also the important for the success of the organization. Additional success factors are:

- Transparency,
- Focus on the quality of spin-offs and startups based on a comprehensive selection process.
