Topic of the practice

Gent BC (Big in Creativity) is an online and real life network fostering knowledge based industry, entrepreneurship and innovation in the region of Ghent.

Good Practice Information

The main target groups for this platform are research scientists - both academic and industrial - and entrepreneurs, reaching out from technicians up to management. In order to foster communication and exchange of good practice Gent BC offers ample opportunities for networking by organizing events.
- Business Café: after work networking event once a month
- Info-workshops: covering topics of general interest i.e. financing, Human Resources etc

Gent BC also offers an online platform for knowledge based industries in the region. Companies and research organizations can use the communication tools of Ghent BC to increase theire visibility in the region (press releases, job vacancies, events). Gent BC distributes this information via its website, social media ie twitter, LinkedIn and facebook.
- Technology-workshops: offering insights into specific technology areas
Gent BC is not exclusively working for the Creative and Cultural Industries but for entrepreneurs in general. Some of the members however have a close link with CCI such as IBBT (new media) and Vooruit (cultural centre). The main aim as well is to make entrepreneurs more creative and try to let them think out of the box (eg : top speaker such as Miha Pogačnik).

We are now, as one of the founders of Gent BC, thinking about the possibility in giving Gent BC a same evolution as Flanders District of Creativity which in the beginning was founded with the sole purpose of making entrepreneurs in Flanders more creative but recently has also the objective of making creative people more entrepreneurial.

Evidence of success

GENT BC has more than 100 members and successfully links science and business.
Gent BC's communication channels reach out to more than 11.000 contacts within the region.

In 2011 Gent BC organized 13 events (9 Business Café's and 4 workshops) which were attended by more than 740 participants.
