Good Practice Information

The Swedish Artists' Centre (SAC) is an organsation covering the whole of Sweden working for professional artists. It is divided into five regions; Kc_north (Kc nord), Kc_central (Kc mitt), Kc_east (KC öst), KC_west (Kc väst) and Kc_south (Kc syd). Each region is an independent non-profit-making association. Around 2300 artists are members of the five Swedish Artists' Centres. The Artist centre assist organisations, authorities, firms and private persons in contacting professional artists. The KC Syd association is a network for artists, developed to attract commissions for public artworks (in buildings, on highways, etc) Kc Syd is financed by Kulturrådet, Region Skåne, Regionförbundet Södra Småland and membership fees.
Sweden has a widely-accepted recommendation that 1% of the costs of public and commercial buildings be given over to commissioned artworks. KC Syd is more an association than a network, but its lobbying for business makes an excellent model that could be transferred to networks. The success of such lobbying, however, depends entirely on regions promoting a similar funding policy (or recommendation, as it is in Sweden).

Evidence of success

This is a good practise example of support to CCI's. Konstnärscentrum Syd is an association/network to strengthen the individual artists and attract commissions for public artworks. Konstnärscentrum syd had 245 members in 2011 (149 women and 96 men), contracted 80 commissions to a value of 5,5 milion SEK.
