Topic of the practice

Improving Energy Efficiency

Good Practice Information

Comunidad Valencia has written guidelines for disseminating energy efficiency and rational energy use concepts. Firstly, these guidelines define the energy consumption of all sectors in order to determine energy sources, final users and energy consumption curves. Secondly, energy efficiency measurements to reduce consumption and costs are explained and real applications are shown to help businessmen with making the correct decisions. These guidelines mainly cover public lighting, public building illumination, air conditioning, engines, pumps, etc. Besides these guidelines, the plan includes other activities, such us training courses and a ‘save energy programme’ to raise people’s awareness of daily saving opportunities. Another important activity promoted in industry is the energy audit, which evaluates a factory’s energy efficiency and electrical and thermal consumption and proposes solutions in order to reduce primary energy intensity by electricity generation (RES plan, cogeneration plants, etc.).

Evidence of success

The plan is expected to result in an annual reduction of 1.1 % in primary energy intensity. The main success is the energy efficiency guidelines which characterize energy consumption in all sectors and show real applications of energy efficiency measurements.
