How to link clusters

Good Practice Information

In regions with several strong clusters, cluster policy is often geared towards developing individual clusters but also connections between clusters. Such cross-clustering efforts can conducted between stakeholders of complementary character from different sectors. However, clusters belonging to the same sector are obvious candidates to look for synergy effects through improved coordination.
In Lyon 3 cluster were identified as working in the field of cleantech. To gain on visibility and efficiency and to strengthen innovation and R&D coordination, a cross-cluster collaboration platform within the cleantech issues was developed involving the 3 clusters.

Evidence of success

This approach illustrates the potentials in mobilising cluster organisations to work together in the case of shared interest. No quantifiable evidence of success exist at this stage but the project has resulted in increased collaboration and improved coordination between clusters which in itself is a success.
