How to stimulate interaction between firms ans reserach organisations

Good Practice Information

Gothenburg is a city region with a strong life science business sector as well as large universities. To stimulate interaction between research institutions and the life science industry, the Institute for Biomaterials and Cell Therapy has been established which conducts research projects with participants from both the university and the life science companies. Furthermore, a science-incubator
park/innovation center has been established to help researchers with the development and financing of business ideas in the life science field. By the year of 2012, more than 40 companies within the life science sector have gained from this initiative by setting up their activity.

Evidence of success

The gab between business and research represents an important blockage to european innovation. The Gothenburg tool to bridge the research gab by institutionalising links between business and research has proven a success illustrated by 3 large scale projects involving in the period 2010-2011 more than 10 local stakeholders from research and business.
