Good Practice Information

The objectives of good practice 'cultural routes' are:
- to design and develop a long distance trail to promote sustainable development in the region based on its culture, heritage and history,
- to create a tourism offer focused on heritage as the main point,
- looking for alternatives to traditional mass tourism, in order to counterbalance the effects of seasonal tourism.
Consell de Mallorca for more than 20 years is developing programs for conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, as well as in the design, creation and management of hiking routes.
One of these is the "Dry Stone Route" with its protection and the value of its surroundings in terms of landscape and heritage.
Main stakeholders are Regions, Municipalities, bussines, associations and SMEs.

Evidence of success

20.500 overnight stays in 2012 at the 5 refuges managed by the Consell de Mallorca and linked to the Dry Stone Route. 78.000 visits in 2012 at the official webpage of the Dry Stone Route.
