Good Practice Information

The energy desk for data centres aims to improve the energy efficiency of the ICT infrastructure by offering best practice based vetted solutions to data centre owners and operators who are becoming increasingly aware of the need to consider and improve energy efficiency.
The practice consists of three parts: To collect, document and showcase instruments for greening Amsterdam datacenters; - Move from regional impact to national impact; - Boost commercialisation of the solutions/instruments identified.

Evidence of success

Amsterdam has a commitment to reduce the city's carbon emissions by 2025 by 40% compared to emission levels in 1990. ICT uses about 15% of all electricity consumed in the region, and datacenters use half of that. Amsterdam is one of three dataprocessing hubs in Europe, and datacenters are a key part in the city's economic activity and social well-being.
