Topic of the practice

Reducing CO2 emissions through replacement of incandescent lamps, inverters in high load motor control centres, aircos and highly efficient VRV units.

Good Practice Information

Malta International Airport, the main Maltese Airport Operator, has implemented several measures including the replacement of incandescent lamps by chokes, the introduction of inverters in high load motor control centres, replacement of terminal building air-conditioning chillers by more efficient chillers and introduction of highly efficient VRV units. Donor: Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding.

Evidence of success

a. replacement of incandescent lamps by chokes: reduction of terminal building lighting load by more than 25%; b. introduction of inverters: consumption reductions by 10%; c. replacement of terminal building air-conditioning chillers: improving coefficient of performance by 25%; d. introduction of highly efficient VRV units: reduction of air-conditioning load by 10%.
