Good Practice Information

European Mobility Week is a good example of how to promote sustainable mobility and green transport through local actions framed by European guidance and to increase the use of public transport and soft modes and to decrease the private car use.
For 11 years, Almada participated in the European Mobility Week. Sharing the objectives of the EC, the Municipality of Almada used this initiative as a great opportunity for raising public awareness to the urban mobility problems. These campaigns have created a valuable opportunity to raise the public debate on this topic and stimulate the finding of common solutions.
The Almada campaign, organized by Almada City Council and the Local Energy Management Agency, engaged over 300 different organizations and thousands of people. Almada invested in tangible and lasting measures that contribute to improve the mobility of the community, creating a more human and friendly urban space.

Evidence of success

European Mobility Week in Almada was recognized by the EC, with various distinctions, and in '10 Almada won the European Mobility Week Award. Other municipalities profited from this experience, adopting some of Almada ideas. Mobility paradigm is changing in Almada.
