Listening Platform of the tourist users’ needs
Topic of the practice
Support to SMEs and Public Administration to promote touristic destination, tourist inflow, social networks, blog, public and private tourist services, net sentiment
Good Practice Information
The "Listening Platform of the tourist users’ needs" shows how to get more insight on how to better target new public policies on tourism and on which services it is better to invest in for future tourist events. The objective of the practice was to "listen to users’ needs" on tourism services in Turin during the 2010 Holy Shroud Exhibition, to find out whether new technological solutions increase tourist inflow.
The Platform analysed different sources, public data on tourist flows, contents of e-mails sent to and by tourist offices, conversations on tourist and cultural topics on blogs, forum, web sites.
It also considered ‘implicit’ system data and digital contents generated directly by users to produce an analysis methodology and the results were interpreted leading to the final reports.
Evidence of success
With the platform, tourism offices have monitored tourists comments on social networks during and after their stays. It provided useful tips to develop new services or improve existing ones and direct policies on tourism. The Platform was also used for the Torino Smart City website, to collect net sentiment on smart city issues (mobility, pollution, …) which averaged 2000 contacts per month.
