Good Practice Information

“Crete” Brand Name is part of the strategic plan of the Region of Crete for the Primary Sector. The goal is for Crete to become an example of sustainable regional development, an island of “green” products and services, which will satisfy the needs and requirements of both the market and the consumers, and will ensure the decent and qualitative living of Cretan residents by:
• Promoting concrete viable production management
• Enhancing the island’s brand name as a destination producing “green” and quality products and services
• Respecting Tradition and Culture
• Connecting the economic sectors towards this goal.
Relevant stakeholders include Institutions, Producers, Tradesmen, Hotel and Restaurant owners, – Store owners, Tourism Agents and services

Evidence of success

Until now the project activity has generated:
• 85 certified products, produced in 16 certified enterprises under the label “CRETE”, over 120 applications under assessment
• 23 enterprises, a 5 star hotel and 3 rural tourism enterprises have been certified with the cretan cuisine quality label
• 4 Cretan Groceries in Athens managed by Cretan businessmen
• participation in Network AREPO
