Good Practice Information

Open Lab is a 11-month Student Entrepreneurship Program, which assists students of all faculties an opportunity to create their own company offer by implementing their most (positively) outrageous ideas, try out new concepts and build prototypes in multidisciplinary teams. Open Lab provides teams with mentors, resources, and rewards best projects with monetary awards at the end of each cycle.
The Open Lab also organizes weekly seminars that are open to all interested students. Inspiration for such an initiative came from the MIT Media Lab and other similar organisations.

Evidence of success

Since the foundation of the Open Lab, the student teams have developed 4 physical prototypes, 2 digital prototypes, several service concepts, and conducted an experiment. When it comes to life sciences, one project has made it to the top 25 of the biggest Estonian business plan competition Ajujaht. Several other biotech ideas have been proposed and are currently waiting for teams to be assembled.
