Good Practice Information

Biocat is the organization that coordinates and promotes the life sciences sector in the BioRegion of Catalonia. Biocat supports all stakeholders in this area and their initiatives to boost research, active transfer of knowledge, business innovation and entrepreneurship in order to make biotechnology and biomedicine become driving forces for the country’s economy.
All Biocat’s programs and activities are structured around four strategic axes:
1) Cluster consolidation
2) Business competitiveness and talent
3) Internationalization
4) Social perception of biotechnology

Evidence of success

The BioRegion of Catalonia gathers 520 companies (biotechnological, pharmaceutical, medical technological and services) as well as 54 research centers, 15 hospitals with research activity and 10 universities that together have in operation more than 440 research groups working on life sciences.
