Good Practice Information

This practice shows a good example of how to integrate all public transport operators for a regional travel planner. Mugipuzkoa “Gipuzkoa moving” was a data integration project among different regional transport companies. Travel information was provided before in individual proprietary formats. Therefore, Public Transport information was partial not coherent, neither easy to understand, and not offered as a network. Transfer between two operators was difficult to plan because of this lack of information.
The main challenge in the project was to manage proprietary system transport companies and regulators to provide user information, but also to assist planning, allocate human force and rolling resources in the companies. The innovative part was the correct definition of the data model and the connection model.

Evidence of success

After this project there are multiple mobile applications for travel planning in the region that include all modes and operators of the region. The system integrates 250 lines, more than 1.700 stops, and 16 operator’s information on travel time and routes. It was the first time that so many different partners involved in public transport hold a project together.
