Good Practice Information

Araba Mobil is a touristic information service for mobile devices. The amount of existing information on cultural heritage is enormous and it is necessary to make this information available while creating value through cultural heritage. Technologies and systems for mass distribution are there: Nearly 80% of the world population has a mobile phone, almost 50% of them smartphones. Location specific
information can be provided at world wide level using GPS. Location based services based on augmented reality technologies have great potential for touristic purposes. New ideas and solutions came from collaboration between technology experts and experts in cultural heritage and help to value the cultural heritage assets and promote the economic development of the region based on tourism.

Evidence of success

The impact of the project is measured by the number of downloads of the application (Araba Movil). The application is available in Android Market (Google Play) since July 2010 and till end of 2012 the number of downloads has reached over 1,000. The language of the application is Spanish. Therefore the target audience is limited.
