Topic of the practice

Improving public awareness among the population of the Pleven Region in terms of opportunities offered by EU Structural Funds

Good Practice Information

The accession of Bulgaria to the EU & access to European funds created new development opportunities. There is mistrust among potential beneficiaries, insufficient knowledge of the rules, and disappointment due to the complex procedures. The Regional Information Centre provides information, organizes meetings and raises awareness among the public about the effective&efficient utilization of
Structural and Cohesion Funds in the Pleven Region–thereby also creating partnerships between the different stakeholders by bringing them together to discuss common problems and solutions of mutual interest. The Centre maintains active collaboration with managers & intermediate bodies of Bulgarian operational programs, provides information/answers to potential beneficiaries about opportunities.

Evidence of success

• Continuous partnership between stakeholders - central, regional and local authorities, governing bodies and intermediate bodies&ongoing dialogue between participants, beneficiaries and stakeholders
• Partnerships between businesses and government bodies for the implementation of joint projects in all 7 operational programmes
• Increased knowledge/activity of potential beneficiaries
