Good Practice Information

The constitution of the second level cooperative Sierra de las Nieves aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the inland municipalities in the province of Málaga though the achievement of the guarantee of origin and quality for the local oil. Socially speaking, the project meant a transition from a situation of rivalry among local enterprises to cooperation. In addition, gathering all
former investments has enabled the optimisation of facilities and procedures. The project resultes appealing for the financial institutions in fact cooperatives of credit showed interest in participating in the future of the company. The joint action undertaken, enabled social entrepreneurs to work better. The second level cooperative income derives from commercial activities (no public funding).

Evidence of success

It may not relate to olives, but bringing together experiences from the same field carried out by social economy enterprises who are eager to coordinate among themselves for the sake of upper interests seems quite feasible. This experience can be replicated in any context where a genuine product exists since capital is not a priority.
