support to companies in cleantech sectors

Good Practice Information

EnviroCluster is an active community of environmental and cleantech organisations; a supply side measure allowing networking between cleantech actors. The cluster consists of around 350 businesses, public authorities, investors and academic institutions supporting eco-innovation, helping businesses and organisations to develop new products and services that have a positive environmental impact.
It supports companies in five cleantech sub-sectors: energy, materials and design, pollution prevention, waste and recycling, water and wastewater treatment. As long as they are cleantech focused, any company, local authority or higher education institute may apply for membership.

Evidence of success

EnviroCluster are a leading cluster in the Eco-Innovation Cluster Partnership. With £590m annual turnover it has 5,800 employees. EnviroCluster work received an important boost in 2008 through the creation of the Peterborough Eco Innovation Centre – an enterprise hub for environmental / cleantech companies.
Within two years the centre grew to accommodate 37 companies seeking to take advantage of the growing global environmental technology market – estimated to be worth £22 billion. Since opening, 64 businesses have been supported with 360 plugged in to the virtual network.
