Energy efficiency, schools, education
Good Practice Information
The basis of 50/50 concept (IEE project -Euronet 50/50) is to share economic incentives: 50% of energy savings achieved from energy efficiency measures taken by pupils and teachers are returned through a financial payout. The other 50% will be a net saving for the public authority that pays the bills. As a result everyone wins; the school gets additional economic resources, the public authorities have
less energy costs and energy efficient schools contribute to local energy and climate change targets. Moreover, 50/50 is a clear commitment to have more energy efficient public buildings and spread the project beyond schools. 50/50 is an opportunity for municipalities to reduce its energy consumption, to involve the municipal workers and to become an example for citizens to fight climate change.

More than 6900 pupils of 58 schools and 43 municipalities of 9 countries participated

Each school saved 27,72 MWh (2011), a reduction of 10% on energy consumption.
Each school reduced 8,47 t of CO2 emissions on 2011.
10,41% reduction in GHG emission was achieved.
Each school saved an average of 2000 €, getting back 50% of the money saved.
