Good Practice Information
Kulmin shows how attention on the cultural heritage monuments and sites in people’s everyday environment can increase their understanding of the cultural heritage. The project shows how experience and attractions development, tourism and economic development, experience-based business development based on cultural heritage monuments and sites forms a basis for enhancing local values based on appreciation and protection of cultural heritage monuments and sites.
“Kulmin” is a complete framework for digital dissemination/interpretation of cultural heritage. The framework consists of the following parts, integrated into a seamless user interface:
- The website www.kulmin.no, where all information and communication/interpretation is available, searchable and able to share on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
- A web application for smart phones, which is the heart of the system. Here you can find the historical monuments and sites marked on the maps, listed in overviews and charts for the municipality, category, or alphabetical list.
- Each historical monument and site has its own page with guidance in the form of text, video and audio, picture gallery, information on availability and maps.
It is difficult to find other measurable parameters as the cultural heritage monuments and sites are located out in the countryside without any visitor centers.
Evidence of success
Because of Kulmin there have been increased visits to the website. There is an increased interest from local authorities and local people through positive feedback and interest in the establishment of several more Kulmin in the municipalities.
