Mobility Fund Roermond
Topic of the practice
Good Practice Information
Mobility Fund Roermond shows a good example of mobility management in a public-private partnership. It is established between the City of Roermond and the city’s entrepreneurs, organised in various Business Improvement Districts (BID’s). Its objective is to keep the city accessible by using sustainable mobility measures. The fund (annual budget is €100,000) is managed by an independent foundation. The city and entrepreneurs contribute in equal proportions to the fund, both financially and in effort. They select together the projects to be funded. Additional budgets are allocated to specific projects that are funded through the Mobility Fund.
Key success factors are a good cooperation between private and public partners and acknowledgement amongst all partners that mobility management contributes to the accessibility of Roermond.
Evidence of success
As a result of this project a legal and financial structure for combined efforts in mobility management is created and efficient and simple communication between municipality and companies is ensured. In 2003 four projects were set up through the Mobility Fund, all were delivered jointly and were regarded a success by all partners.:1) A package deal of PT-ticket and discount at shops; 2) Free bicycle repairs in city centre during peak-shopping hours; 3) Distribution of PT-information to car-users; 4) Enhanced PT-information at Bus- and Railway Station for visitors to the city.
