Good Practice Information

Citilab is basically the first digital citizen laboratory in Europe. It has been set up with the aim of setting in motion the innovative capacity of individuals to prevent them from using technology as a mere tool, but rather to encourage them to become further acquainted with it in order to improve specific aspects of their day-to-day lives and to transform their environment.
Some of the key factors of Citilab is its focus on social innovation, on taking care of working methods (user-oriented, learning-based creation and design) and on investing in research for knowledge creation. Regarding funding Citilab nowadays depends on public funding however it aims at attracting private companies that need Cililab environment as a Lab where testing new products and services.

Evidence of success

By the end of 2012 Citilab had 6044 registered members: 2811 (46.51%) women and 3233 (53.49%) men. The number of members rose by 552 (+ 9.1%) compared to the previous year.
