Good Practice Information

The basic outline of the programmes Empremtes de Catalunya and Oficis Singulars are respectively the creation of a brand and preparation of a catalogue with the involvement of 125 handicraft companies and the contact and collaboration between renowned designers and well-known producers or artisans in a territory known for its handicrafts. These 2 programmes combine with one another to achieve
modern products and their certification, in order to meet the demand from more than 27million foreign visitors who visit Catalonia annually, plus national tourists from outside Catalonia. Besides being produced and designed in certain areas where handicraft production is a historical tradition, they support the geographical decentralisation of the handicraft sector and in territorial development.

Evidence of success

Number of companies involved in both programmes: 160 companies. Jobs affected: approximately 325. Evolution of store sales: over 25% higher in 2012 as compared with 2011. Events: 27 exhibitions are presented throughout Catalonia at which products from these programmes are displayed and marketed. The qualitative result of all this has been that craft trades in Catalonia now have greater relevance.
