Good Practice Information

CIAV-Meisenthal is an International centre for the transmission, education, translation and celebration of the Art of Glassmaking. In the centre are located three complimentary structures: 1. CIAV, a research, education and production laboratory, which houses: artist / designer studios, glassmaking facilities with resident glassmakers, a gallery, viewing galleries, and a commercial outlet.
2 An exhibition venue for contemporary art, music, theatre and performing arts.3 A glass museum dedicated to the technical, artistic, and social resonances of glassmaking in this area. CIAV was founded as a resource to validate the intangible culture of glassmaking. It aims to evaluate its historical cultural and social heritage and promote its future as a centre for transmission, and innovation.

Evidence of success

From the quantitative point of view, a large n. of companies participated: 342 artists and designers have participated in residencies since 1992. Local employment further enhance this position. In 2012, this included 16 employees, 6 seasonal employees, and 50 different work experiences. From the qualitative point of view, the establishment of CIAV has enhanced the local economy and area.
