international watches, export training sessions, etc.) that will strengthen the international visibility of both the clusters themselves and their members. ERAI was commissioned by the Rhone-Alps Region to support clusters in the setting-up of their International Development Plans (IDPs).
Good Practice Information
Each year the Rhone-Alps clusters set up Int'l Development Plans (IDPs). Through IDPs, the Rhone-Alps Region gives grants to finance international collective activities involving the clusters and their members (interclustering, exploratory and BtoB missions…). IDPs have many goals: increase the number of companies and clusters developing internationally, encourage their competitiveness within,
within international markets, strengthen the international visibility of the industry and the region. IDPs take into account the international strategy of the clusters, market and technology watches, sectoral information feedbacks, companies’ expectations. They are set up during international committees gathering all the relevant regional and national stakeholders dealing with internationalization.
Evidence of success
By aiming at increasing clusters’ and companies’ competitiveness, IDPs contribute to promote the dynamism of the regional authority and the whole territory. More and more clusters ask for an IDP. Currently, there are 17 of them. IDPs enhance the creation of a collective dynamics: companies of the same sector are encouraged to exchange and share experience and best practices.
